Disassembling the ZIL-5301 steering cardan shaft
The steering cardan shaft wears very little and should be disassembled only in case of mechanical damage to individual parts
Reinforced version of the ZIL-5301 clutch
Since April 2001, a reinforced version of the clutch has been installed on vehicles.
The damper part of the driven disk has been reinforced: the damper springs are vulcanized with rubber and look like a rubber cylinder
The ZIL-5301 has an inconveniently located washer reservoir.
Inconveniences arise when filling it.

Removing and disassembling the ZIL-5301 cardan transmission
To remove the cardan transmission from the vehicle, unscrew the nuts securing the rear fork-flange of the cardan shaft, remove the washers and remove the bolts from the flange holes, while supporting the cardan shaft.
Unscrew the steering knuckle mounting nut and remove it using puller mod. 2496 or mod. И803.40.000 (Fig. 1) pitman arm.
Knocking the pitman arm together can cause parts to break.
