GAZ-66 repair
The GAZ-53A and GAZ-66 vehicles use the P1Z-V breaker-distributor (Fig. 1), and the GAZ-66-0Z vehicle uses the P105.
The breaker-distributor shaft is driven by a gear from the camshaft, which rotates clockwise (when viewed from the cover side).
Two cylinder heads are installed on the engine. Each head is centered by two locking pins pressed into the cylinder block
The transfer case (Fig. 1) has two gears: direct and downshifting
The gearbox (Fig. 1) has four forward gears and one reverse gear
The gearbox uses constant mesh gears on the second, third and fourth gears
Before assembly, lubricate all gearbox parts to prevent scoring during the initial period of operation
Before installing, lubricate the threaded part of the bolts with paint
The cardan transmission (Fig. 1) of the GAZ-53A vehicle consists of two shafts: intermediate 13 and main 10
The design of the rear axle of the GAZ-53A and GAZ-66 vehicles is shown in Fig. 1 and 2.
To increase durability, the axles are equipped with a hypoid main gear. The driving gear is shifted downwards by 32 mm relative to the driven gear.
